Genre:
The Rakes indie genre is represented through this poster promoting their tour by the very low-fi imagery and simple layout. The poster is black and white with red lettering which shows that the words are more important for the tour than the band imagery. There is quite a simple image of the band which also connotes the indie genre with the band casually sitting with quirky and expressive faces. This layout for the poster is purposefully low-fi with no expressive imagery and instead concentrates on promoting tour dates and tick information, something which is much more important for bringing fans to indie band gigs.
Media Language:
There aren't particularly many visual techniques used for the tour poster, which is usually the case as they are more about promotion of a tour than band image. The poster instead relies on the connotations of the band members being funny, quirky and different by the way they sit and are expressing themselves through non-verbal language. Their costumes are also testament to the band image and promotes their indie background and low-fi band imagery.
Writing is predominant on the poster with the font being quite bold and in capital lettering and in red which makes it much more apparent and clearer to read against the dark background. The band name 'The Rakes' is the largest part of the poster along with the symbol found on the band's album. This firstly, catches the eye of people and makes it clear to fans of the band that the Rakes have a tour coming up. Secondly, this is also promoting the bands album simultaneously with the band name and symbol also featuring on the front cover of that.
Audience:
This tour poster would most likely feature in mediums such as magazines, including NME and Q because people who enjoy indie music will also enjoy reading magazines about indie music. The poster is on A4 meaning it will take up a whole magazine page and will catch the eye of readers much more easily. Furthermore, the poster could feature at the locations where the tour is going since this would promote upcoming tours such as this, but more importantly when there are other bands playing at these places, the audiences will notice the Rakes poster and could be a fan, thus buying tickets for the tour.
