The shoot we did on Wednesday was at the scout hut location indoors as we hoped to shoot the rest of one of our narratives as well as shoot any shots we dislike from any of the previous shoots. For this shoot, Ali took on the directing role, Ben took on the producer role and Chris was the camera operator and lighting man.
As the producer, Ben managed the overall shoot by booking the equipment we needed and organising when the shoot would be, what everyone needed to bring (i.e. props and costume for Harri) and sorted out the time we would shoot as well as making sure we had the scout hut to film in. Lastly, he also helped with the lighting and some filming on the shoot and importantly, ironing the background sheets in order to get rid of the creases which had hindered the previous shoot.
The director role for Ali was basically taking the storyboard and deciding which shots we were going to need to shoot and in what order we would should them to make the filming go as smoothly as possible. The role also included deciding which shots were needed most and those that we would shoot if we had the time to do so and finally, making sure that we knew what sort of framing we needed for the shots.
The role that Chris took on was camera operator and with that he also dictated where the lighting looked best. Chris was able to tell through looking at the camera if the lighting needed to be altered and if there was shadow being cast over the background.
There were no major technical problems during the shoot, but there were a few difficulties we faced. Firstly, the background sheets we were using had been folded up in a bag meaning they were creased. We had anticipated this and so Ben brought an iron in order to get rid of these creases. Unfortunately we were not able to completely remove them and may have to re-shoot the ones where they look worst.
In addition, during the "vodka" shot we were looking to film it with the SLOW MOTION CAMERA?! to have a good effect. We filmed using the other camera just in case, which turned out to be a great idea as the CAMERA!? turned off suddenly and we didn't manage to get any in slow motion. Instead we had to settle for the normal shot as it would have been very difficult to re-shoot at the time.
Lastly, once we manged to make sure the CAMERA?! was working properly, we went to shoot the glass falling shot. This time instead of using sheets for the background, we used wallpaper. The downside to this is that it isn't wide enough and so we had to use three pieces. This meant the lines between the paper were visible and this looked bad when we watched the footage back. The short term solution to this was that we have simply cut the shot down in Premier Elements so that the lines can no longer be seen.
Over the whole shoot, we managed to film the majority of one line of narrative which went mostly well, except the ones which we are questioning due to the background creases. However, we did fail to shoot all the shot sin this narrative that we had storyboarded for because we did not have the necessary props to make it possible to film.
For this shoot, Ben took on the role of chief housewife. |
