Group: Editing Process

Now we have completed the first shoot, we have had an opportunity to review footage and start editing.

Following the editing process of our AS Media Piece 'The Rushes', we have settled back into the editing routine that we constructed then for editing. After capturing the footage to the computer using the SD card reader, we watch back all of the footage as a group, which gives us an opportunity to discuss which shots we are most happy with and will use in the video.

We then start editing, with one person doing the actual editing and the other two advising. In this first editing session, Chris was the lead editor. We were particularly happy with the mealworm sandwich shots, which Chris dragged into the timeline, and added it to the appropriate place in the song. The other shot that we were very happy was of Harri singing the last line of the song, with his face half lit by the lighting we used. We turned the contrast up on this shot and turned down the brightness, to accentuate the difference in colour, which we were happy with.

After this first editing session, we now have an idea of some of the footage that we are also less happy with, so will reshoot, such as the fast-cut flash shots of Harri pulling a number of expressions.

  1. Personally, I feel that the editing process has gone well so far and we have encountered very few problems so far.

Editing so far has been very helpful in allowing us to see how our shots fit in with the song and where we have gaps in the timeline that we need to fill with shots from future shoots.

Furthermore, we have been able to reflect on the shots we already have and are able to pick and drag the ones we like onto our timeline and edit them into the song as we want.

I am most happy with the lip synching at the end of the song since Chris managed to line it up with the song perfectly giving it a very realistic look.
